MOORE HIGH SCHOOL FOOD PANTRY – A Need That MUST Be Met!
Throughout the school year the Moore High School Alumni Association works closely with school faculty to identify and promote causes that have a direct impact for the students. While we feel that every endeavor we apply ourselves to is important, now we find ourselves faced with a harsh reality that must be corrected.
Moore High School has 85 to 100 kids each school year that experience hunger on a daily basis. Through no fault of their own, these students are not provided enough food to sustain them. Teachers and counselors work to identify and help those in need in the most discreet and positive ways possible, but it is an uphill battle.
How difficult is it for you to miss a meal during your busy day? Imagine being a teenager in a family that didn’t have enough to eat over the weekend. Or, a student that can’t afford breakfast and lunch? How well could you focus if you knew there wasn’t a hot meal waiting at home tonight? We have students that either go hungry or do not have the proper food to meet nutritional guidelines.
All of us need to join together and meet this problem head on!
The Moore High School Alumni Association, along with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and Moore High School Faculty and Students are joining together to establish a Moore High School Food Pantry for those students in need.
MHSAA will spearhead this project and promote it throughout the community. That is the community you grew up in, the one you live in today, and the same community your kids, and perhaps their kids, call home. Now, let’s talk about how you can help.
It takes $200 per year to provide each student with the food they need. That’s right, for the price of one or two grocery store visits for your family we can meet the needs of one student for an entire school year. Is this price too much? Out of reach for your budget? That is understandable in this economy. We aren’t asking you to take on more than you can afford. Can you write a check for $20 or make a donation of food staples to the pantry? Any amount of money or goods is one step closer to helping a student. And, any donations are tax deductible under or IRS 501(c)(3) designation. That’s right we are one of only a few Alumni Associations with that IRS designation. That makes it beneficial for all.
Ways in which you can contribute
-
Donate any amount on an annual basis (preferably with a three to five year commitment)
-
Make a one- time donation in any amount
-
Hold a Food Drive or Fundraiser through your family/friends, workplace, church or civic group
-
Join the Alumni Association and designate your membership dues to the Food Pantry. An increased number of Alumni Members would allow us to feed more students
-
Pick up five extra items the next time you go to the grocery store and drop them off at the School Office. They are ready for your donations. Do you shop at box stores that sell in bulk? Could you afford one extra case of vegetables for the Food Pantry? Or a second package of bar soap?
-
Have a novel way in which your company or group could contribute? Let us know!

As you can see, these aren’t extravagant items. They are fundamental foods that will help a student focus on their grades and future, instead of their hunger.
We realize that in this economy you are exposed to many organizations asking you to donate to all sorts of worthy causes. And worthy, they are. But what could be more worthy than supporting our future alumni? Let’s contribute to our community and show these students that giving has an immediate capacity to help. Send that student into the future with a positive attitude about giving because of the help they received.
This project is on a fast track because hunger doesn’t wait for a convenient time!
This isn’t a seasonal problem. It lives in our community every day of the year. While we are launching this project during the “giving season” this problem is always there!
Moore High School students have built shelving and prepared a room on campus to accommodate the Food Pantry. They realize that supporting a fellow student in need is important. We hope you will too!
Please take a few moments to decide how you can help. We are providing a Donation Form online that will help us coordinate your donations, or drop your contributions off at the school office. If you would like to discuss this program in greater detail, please do not hesitate to contact us here at moorealumni.com. You will receive our immediate attention to such a worthy cause.
Thank you in advance for your support. We are here to help students and alumni grow!
